A former McDonald's employee has revealed the bizarre food combinations workers make themselves when customers aren't watching.

In a Reddit thread about McDonald's cheeseburger seasoning, the ex-staff member shared his mouthwatering recipes made with the fast food giant's ingredients.

The man said he often snacked on 'Angus Fries' which consisted of unsalted fries 'dusted with the Angus beef seasoning from the grill'.

He also said he feasted on a 'Mega MAC' burger.

'It's the same build as a Big Mac, but made with quarter pounder meat and buns plus an extra slice of cheese on the heel,' he said.

Another unexpected treat that some Macca's workers create are 'McMuffin pizzas' with grilled muffin halfs with sauce, 'premium' cheese, and a choice of toppings.

And to wash it all down with, the former employee would drink a 'strawberry sprite' - consisting of 'post mix with 4 squirts/1 shot of strawberry thickshake syrup.'

Last year a McDonald's worker from Sydney lifted the lid on some of the fast food giant's best-kept secrets.

The man, who worked at the chain for ten years during high school and university, revealed that fries can often be left to go cold if workers aren't keeping track of how long each batch has been sitting there.

If you order your fries without salt, you are guaranteed hot and crispy chips.

Simply ask for some salt on the side - a free condiment at McDonald's - and add it to your fresh fries, the former worker said.

He also advised those after ice cream and a topping without the price tag of a McFlurry to order a soft serve cone in a lid for $0.60 and then add Oreo or M&Ms for $0.50 extra.

Likewise, if you're craving a sundae but don't want to pay the premium - simply order a soft serve cone in a lid and add strawberry, hot fudge or caramel sauce on top.

To get extra bang for your buck, he urged customers to ask for a soft drink with no ice.

He said staff are trained to fill close to a third of the cup with ice in a bid to save money on soft drink.

A McDonald's store manager from the U.S. also revealed his own hacks for those wanting to get most value and best taste.

He urged customers to made an 'Apple Pie McFlurry'.

If you're really keen on McDonald's desserts and can't decide if you want hot or cold, you can mix two of them and blend an Apple Pie into your McFluffy.

You'll need to order them both separately and then kindly ask staff if they can be blended together.

If you're after triple protein but fish isn't your thing, order two big macs and a McChicken burger for a 'beef chicken beef' burger.
