Seals 3 restaurants on Sindhu Bhavan Road, one in Vastrapur for violating social distancing rule
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s crackdown on commercial establishments flouting safety rules related to Covid-19 has exposed the lackadaisical attitude.
On Sunday night,AMC officials sealed four eateries for failing to ensure social distancing on their premises. These include Mango, Poetry and Birmies restaurants on Sindhu Bhavan Road and Gajanand Pauva House in Himalaya Arcade near Vastrapur lake.
CR Kharsan, deputy municipal commissioner of SWM department, said “Hotels have not been following the SOP for businesses to operate amid the pandemic situation. Till the time they enter the dining area, customers have to wear masks. Also, they should not crowd inside and maintain social distance, which is not happening currently.
Waiters have to wear gloves, masks, caps. Also, when they come to serve, they should maintain social distance and not come to serve immediately after each other. Even in the dining area, 4-5 people sit close to each other at one table. Seating arrangement should account for social distancing.”
Earlier on Sunday, a team of the Solid Waste Management department of the west zone of AMC had sealed Central mall near Panchwati crossroads after finding people moving around in groups and not wearing masks. Last week, the civic body had sealed Ahmedabad One mall in Vastrapur for the same reasons. Following these incidents, AMC had announced a standard operating procedure for malls on Sunday.
AMC officers said that the drive to check for violation of safety rules will continue in coming days and those found flouting the rules will be fined. Commercial establishments could even be sealed. An official of the SWM department said, “Maintaining social distance and wearing masks when going out is of utmost importance. But people ignore these rules. Even if they have masks, they leave them dangling their neck, which is a wrong practice.” He added that an SOP had been prepared for businesses when Unlock began. As per the SOP, all businesses had been instructed to ensure social distancing on their premises.
