A huge spike of 62,064 new coronavirus patients in the last 24 hours has taken India's tally to 22,15,074, the Union Health Ministry said this morning, adding that over 69.33 lakh patients have recovered so far. More than 44,000 deaths linked to the highly infectious disease have been recorded by India since the beginning of the pandemic; 1,007 patients died in the last 24 hours.
India, the third worst-hit country by the pandemic in the world, has been recording a higher single-day surge in COVID-19 case than the United States and Brazil for the last five days

India has scaled the peak of COVID-19 testing with more than seven lakh tests in a single day, the country has conducted nearly 500 tests per minute in the last 24 hours, a senior health ministry official said.
