Pimpri: A decent rainfall in the last few days has come as a relief to those living in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area but it has also carried with it a problem that road users face every year. The potholes in various parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad is causing mayhem for commuters.

The repairing and maintenance of many roads in the industrial hub including service roads were done by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PCMC) before the monsoon season. However, in only a few showers the asphalting of the roads have been removed paving stones on the road.

Most major and internal roads in Pimpri Chinchwad are also witnessing some minor accidents due to the potholes. The road in front of Infant Jesus Church at Yamunanagar, the road from Nigdi towards Tilak Chowk as well as Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, Transport Nagar, Talwade towards Triveni Nagar Chowk, from Triveni Nagar towards Krishna Nagar, Kasarwadi, Shankarwadi, Vallabhnagar, Sant Tukaram Nagar, roads has gravel spread or has developed huge potholes.

Many people have already lost their lives in Pimpri and Chinchwad due to potholes. This time around, students have been spared from this as the schools amid the coronavirus outbreak are been shut. However, senior citizens and the working class are facing some serious issues. There is a rage among commuters due to the condition of the roads has made them unsafe.

Even though the nallas, drainage and underground sewers are dug in the city under the Amrut Yojana, many areas here still witness big potholes. The administration has begun repair work from January, however, the residents here are not at all satisfied by the work.

Many residing in Pimpri, Chinchwad say there are only a few areas left in the industrial town which are pothole-free. A resident in Chinchwad on the condition of anonymity said, "No repair work is done by the administration here. Every year, potholes are a serious problem in the area. Many people complain about the same but the civic body fails to repair these roads.
