AHMEDABAD: Gujarat recorded 1,056
new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours ending 5pm on Monday, taking the total to 72,120. The state also recorded deaths of 20 positive patients, taking the state death toll to 2,674. It was the
lowest daily death toll in 20 days and the lowest daily cases in four days for the state.
The deaths in Gujarat included eight from Surat, four from Ahmedabad, two from Vadodara, and one each from Amreli,
Bhavnagar,
Mehsana, Porbandar, Rajkot and Tapi. The new cases in Gujarat include 236 in Surat, 144 in Ahmedabad, 108 in Vadodara and 96 in Rajkot.
With addition of 144 cases in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Monday,
Ahmedabad district's total tally of Covid-19 positive cases reached 28,042. The district currently accounts for 39% of total cases registered in Gujarat and 27% of active cases.
Analysis of the 10-day cases and deaths for the four major cities of Gujarat – Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot – reveal that Rajkot has recorded the biggest jump in both cases and deaths. Compared to 475 cases it registered between July 22 to 31, the first 10 days of August recorded 644, reporting a jump of 36%. Likewise, it had no deaths in the last 10 days of July whereas 11 deaths were recorded in the first 10 days of August.
Ahmedabad and Surat recorded a dip in cases at 11% and 6% respectively for 10-day period whereas Vadodara recorded a rise of 19%. In terms of deaths, Ahmedabad recorded almost the same deaths – 40 compared to 39 – whereas Surat recorded a dip of 33% from 78 to 60. Vadodara’s number remained the same at 18.
Out of 72,120 total Covid-19 positive patients in Gujarat, 14,170 (19.7%) are active, 55,276 (76.6%) are discharged, and 2,674 (3.7%) are dead.
A total of 1,138 patients got discharged in 24 hours, taking the total to 55,276. It's the third consecutive day for the state to record 1,000-plus daily discharges. The discharged patients include 260 from Surat, 121 from Mahisagar, 113 from Ahmedabad and 81 from Vadodara.
Gujarat in 24 hours carried out 29,604 tests, taking the total to 10.17 lakh. The state health department claimed that they are carrying out 455 tests per day per million population. As on Monday evening, Gujarat has 4.95 lakh persons under quarantine, out of which 4.93 lakh are under home quarantine.
