Puducherry agriculture minister
R Kamalakannan tested positive for
Covid-19 on Monday. He was admitted to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer).
The minister, elected from Thirunallar constituency in Karaikal region of the Union territory, was subjected to a medical examination after he was in close contact with Karaikal collector Arjun Sharma who tested positive for Covid-19. He quarantined himself at home.
A couple of days before Sharma tested positive, he along with the
minister honoured Puducherry state first rank holder in UPSC civil services examination 2019 R Saranya and her family members in a simple function at Karaikal.
Saranya and family members have been advised home quarantine. Kamalakanan is the second minister in Puducherry after welfare minister M Kandasamy to contract Covid-19. Kandasamy underwent treatment for the infection in Jipmer and was discharged as he preferred to be under home isolation while treatment.
