Rains are continuing to lash many parts of Kerala amid India Meteorological Department (IMD) predictions of extremely heavy rainfall in six districts -- Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Alappuzha -- raising concerns of the aggravated flood situation in low lying areas, even as the death toll in the recent massive landslide in Idukki district rose to 43 with 17 more bodies being retrieved from the debris. There is likely to be a reduction in rainfall from August 11, it said.

Kerala Rains News LIVE Updates | Water level at Mullaperiyar reservoir reaches 136 feet
The water level at Mullaperiyar reservoir in Idukki district of Kerala reached 136 feet late last night, officials told news agency PTI. The Idukki district collector held discussions with the collector of Theni in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, with regard to the release of water through the tunnel to Vaigai dam.

Low-lying areas in Kottayam and Alappuzha districts have been badly hit due to flooding. Hundreds of families have been shifted to relief camps from-low lying areas, including Kumarakom and Kuttanad regions of Kottayam and Alappuzha districts, officials told news agency PTI.
Kerala Rains News LIVE Updates | The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rainfall in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Alappuzha districts. Sounding a red alert, the IMD said these districts are likely to receive over 20 cms rain in the next 24 hours.
IMD officials said almost all districts north of Alappuzha are likely to receive over 20 cms rains. There is likely to be a reduction in rainfall from tomorrow, they said. (PTI)

The death toll in the landslide in Kerala's Idukki district has risen to 43 as 17 more bodies were retrieved from under the debris. Incessant rains, landslides and opening of shutters of dams across rivers have led to rise in water levels in rivers and streams in central Kerala, aggravating the flood situation.
An airport taxi driver was washed away in floodwaters at Manarcad area in Kottayam district in the early hours of Sunday. His body was recovered later.
Officials said four cases of drowning have been reported from Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Alappuzha districts since Saturday. (PTI)
