The Patriots post opt-out plan is coming together.

After an NFL-high eight players opted out in Foxboro, due to Covid-19, the Patriots have filled most of those roster spots with younger players. On Monday, they signed two more, but this time they pair have some NFL experience.

According to the NFL Network, the Patriots have tight end Jordan Leggett and defensive tackle Darius Kilgo in for physicals and if everything checks out, the two veterans will sign in New England. Both would add depth to their respected positions.

Leggett and Kilgo are the sixth players to be signed by the Patriots since the opt outs. They join new additions. Will Hastings, Isaiah Zuber, Brian Lewerke and Michael Jackson. The Patriots still have two roster spots available.

Leggett, 25, was a fifth-round pick by the New York Jets in 2017. After spending most of his rookie season on the injured reserve, Leggett caught 14 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in 2018. One of his most productive games was against the Patriots that season when he hauled in two passes for a career-best 24 yards. He spent last season in Tampa Bay on the Buccaneers practice squad.

Leggett, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 258 pounds, adds depth to a very young tight end group in Foxboro. He joins Ryan Izzo, Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene, Jake Burt and Rashod Perry on the depth chart.

Kilgo is familiar to the Patriots. In 2016, he was claimed by the Patriots during the season in November. He was eventually waived and signed to the practice squad. The 28-year-old has since spent time in Jacksonville, Houston, Tennessee and most recently Detroit, where he spent last season in the injured reserve. He’s appeared in 29 career games and has made 16 career tackles.

Kilgo joins Lawrence Guy, Adam Butler, Beau Allen, Byron Cowart and Bill Murray on the Patriots defensive tackle depth chart.
