Army jawan loses Rs 2 lakh to KYC fraud

PUNE: Cyber crooks duped an army jawan from a regiment based in the city to the tune of Rs2 lakh on the pretext of upgrading his KYC details on July 31.
The 21-year-old jawan Sona Singh received a telephone call from a crook claiming to be an army official to upgrade the KYC details, states the FIR registered with the Yerawada police station. Singh claims he did not share any details with the crooks but the money was withdrawn from his account.
Inspector Ajay Waghmare (crime) from Yerawada police station said, “The jawan came to know that he was duped after he received text messages about the money debited from his bank account. He also visited the bank and found that the money had been transferred from his bank accounts.” The police have registered a complaint under relevant sections of the IPC and Information Technology Act.
