Coronavirus India Updates: India Tally Crosses 21 Lakh As New Cases Surge

Coronavirus infections in India raced past the 21-lakh-mark as the country reported record new cases in a day.

India added more than 64,000 cases of coronavirus infection in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally to 21.5 lakh in the world’s third-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Aug. 8. This includes over 43,000 deaths and more than 14.8 lakh patients who have recovered.

  • Active cases: 6,28,747
  • Cured/discharged/migrated: 14,80,884
  • Deaths: 43,379
  • Fresh cases in 24 hours: 64,399
  • One-day recoveries: 53,879
  • One-day deaths: 861

India added has added over 5 lakh cases in the last 10 days. The rate of recoveries is also on the rise. Recovered cases are now more than double that of active cases. This, however, does not necessarily count as a sign of relief or an indication that the country has hit its peak.

Global Update:

Australia had its deadliest day with 17 people dying from Covid-19. Brazil’s death toll surpassed 100,000 and cases breached 3 million in the world’s second-biggest coronavirus outbreak. U.S. cases hovered near 5 million as Texas hit a record for positive tests.

Globally, cases have topped 19.5 million leaving over 7,24,500 dead.
