Ranchi: The Ranchi deputy commissioner Chhavi Ranjan on Saturday said this year’s Independence Day programme will be held in Morhabadi ground, instead of JAP-1 ground as initially decided on Tuesday.
Speaking to TOI, Ranjan said, “Considering the current situation where maintaining social distancing norms is key, we had earlier decided to hold a state-sponsored low-key Independence Day programme at JAP-1 ground. But today, we got a directive from the home department, asking us to hold the programme at Morhabadi.”
The DC inspected the Morhabadi ground before preparations for the programme could begin.
He said that maintaining social distancing norms in view of the massive turnout at Morhabadi could be a challenge for the administration but they will try to ensure everything works out smoothly. On the expected turnout and the guest list, Ranjan said they are yet to be finalised. “We are awaiting further directives from the state government,” he added.
