Kerala CM rubbishes Swapna Suresh’s association with Life Mission

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan continued his tirade against media on Saturday as he remained evasive to questions regarding the alleged links that Swapna Suresh, one of the key accused in the gold smuggling case, had with CM’s office and her association with the government’s flagship project Life Mission.
The chief minister said a section of media was hell bent on creating a false impression that he was aware of the gold smuggling and was known to those who were involved in it.
“If the questions were genuine they would have ceased the moment action was taken against the official who was found to have had close ties with undesirable people,” he said.
Vijayan also rubbished the reports that Suresh had pocketed huge amount of money as commission for working as the agent of Life Mission.
“She must have associated with the project in the capacity of a UAE consulate staff. Red Crescent is a UAE-based charity organization that offered assistance towards the project. It was the UAE consulate that directly carried out the works for which the Red Crescent has funded. The government has only shown them the site for the proposed construction. The government is in no way directly connected to the Red Crescent. In that case, how can you hold the government responsible for such deals? ,’’ he said.
