Thiruvananthapuram reports 485 new cases, local transmission rate at 93.5%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state capital on Saturday recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases cases and also recoveries for a single day till date.
The percentage of local transmission cases in the district has been rising alarmingly. As on Saturday, local-transmission cases stood at 93.5% of the total cases reported in the district. As many as 485 new Covid cases and 777 recoveries were recorded on Saturday.
Anchuthengu, which has been a major coastal cluster, reported 125 positive cases on Saturday. The infected people include the president of Anchuthengu panchayat and two standing committee heads.
The president of Anchuthengu panchayat has been actively involved in the running of Covid first-line treatment centres, organizing volunteer groups and running of testing centres.
Family member of one of the heads of the standing committees has also been tested positive while another family member who has shown symptoms was put under isolation.
As many as 22 cases were reported from Medical College area on Saturday. A set of migrant labourers, who arrived in the city for construction work, were also tested positive. The number of recoveries has also begun to pick up in the district.
Since August 1, over 2,000 recoveries were reported in the district. In addition to coastal areas like Puthiyathura, Chovvara, Karumkulam and Anchuthengu, Covid-19 cases continued to emerge from panchayat areas like Udiyankulangara, amd Nellimoodu.
In the city, positive cases were reported from Karamana, Sreekanteswara, Pippinmoodu and Attukal. As many as 1,604 people were put under observation in the district on Saturday.
Also, 1,339 people completed observation period without showing symptoms and 15,282 people are under observation in houses and 705 are in institutional quarantine centres in the district.
On Saturday, 529 people were admitted to hospitals with disease symptoms and 302 people were discharged.
