P Rajesh BENGALURU: A 26-year-old realtor and three of his associates have been arrested on charges of kidnapping and murdering his father on Friday morning and dumping the body on the outskirts of a Kolar village. According to police, he was enraged as his dad had refused to help him financially.
Paneer Selvam, 52, a resident of MV Nagara and also a realtor, went missing after he left home for a temple on Friday morning. His wife P Rani filed a missing complaint the same evening. Preliminary investigations revealed that Selvam had been attacked by a few friends of his elder son P Rajesh Kumar in March. Detailed questioning of the family revealed that Rajesh had tried to kill his father.
SD Sharanappa, deputy commissioner of police (east), said Rajesh had promised his associates Rs 10 lakh for eliminating his father and had paid them an advance of Rs 3 lakh. “When we questioned Rajesh on Friday evening, he was at a loss for words. A detailed interrogation ended in him confessing to the crime. We arrested three of his associates — K Parthiban, 29, of Lakshmanamurthy Nagar, B Stanely, 27, of Shantinagar and J Anand, 21 of NRI Layout — and are on the lookout for others,” Sharanappa said.
Selvam’s body was recovered from a forest on the outskirts of Vemagal in Kolar. Sharanappa said the gang led by Rajesh kidnapped Selvam on his way to the temple around 6am on Friday. “Rajesh knew his father would visit the temple every morning. The accused forcibly pushed him inside a car and injected him with poison. The car reached Vemagal around 8.30am, by when Selvam had died. The gang dumped the body and returned home,” the DCP said.
Sharanappa added: “Rajesh wanted to invest a large sum in the real estate business and repeatedly asked his father for a loan. But he didn’t agree. Rajesh thought Selvam had an affair and was spending lavishly on the woman.”
