JAMMU: Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid and killed one terrorist while seriously injuring two others near the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of J&K’s Poonch district on Friday, the Indian Army said on Sunday. The details of the infiltration attempt came as Pakistan violated the ceasefire in four sectors of the district the same day.
On August 7, security personnel “noticed a group of terrorists attempting to sneak into this side from across the LoC and immediately engaged them. The ensuing gunfight resulted in on-the-spot death of a terrorist and serious injuries to two others,” Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Devender Anand said on Sunday.
“The body of the terrorist had been dragged from the site of the incident but one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines and some eatables with Pakistani markings were recovered from the site,” Lt Col Anand said, adding, “this clearly indicates complicity of Pakistan in sponsoring terror activities in J&K.”
Since June 1, this was the fourth infiltration attempted foiled successfully by Indian Army, which has eliminated seven armed intruders in these operations. In the earlier cases, all in Rajouri district, three armed intruders were killed in Nowshera on June 1, one in Bhimber Gali on July 1 and two in Nowshera on July 28.
Meanwhile, Pakistan resorted to intense mortar shelling and unprovoked firing along the LoC in Poonch’s Mankote sector around 6.45am, followed by 5.50pm in Shahpur, Kirni and Krishna Ghati sectors on Sunday.
