While landing an Air India Express plane at Karipur Airport in Kozhikode district of Kerala, it slipped off the runway and fell into a ditch 30 feet deep. This led to two pieces of the aircraft. This aircraft of Air India Express coming from Dubai had 191 people including crew. There were also 10 newborns on the plane. The plane crash was so severe that the plane split in two. 18 people, including two pilots, were killed in the incident. There were 191 passengers on the plane. Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that 127 people are in hospital and others have been discharged.

AAIB, DGCA, and Flight Safety Department have reached to investigate the incident. Hardeep Singh Puri said that if there was a fire in the plane, our work would have become even more difficult. I am going to the airport. The relief and rescue operations have been completed, preparations are being made to remove the debris and find the black box.

There was a horrific atmosphere at the accident site after the plane fell into the ditch. In addition to the scream of the injured, crying children, and blood-soaked clothes, the noise of the siren of the ambulance created an atmosphere in place of the accident which left everyone shocked.

The plane landed at runway number 10 and ran towards the end of the runway and rolled into the ditch. According to aviation regulator DGCA, it was raining heavily during the accident, and visibility at the airport was 2000 meters. On landing, the aircraft slid off the wet runway and reached the slope, and its front part broke.

Air India's Dubai-Calicut flight (IX-1344) slipped while landing at 7.41 pm on Friday evening. According to the information, the accident occurred due to the wet runway due to rain. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a detailed investigation into the case.

About 10 years ago i.e., on 22 May 2010, one such incident happened in Mangaluru. At that time, Flight 812 of Air India came to Mangaluru from Dubai. The flight also slipped off the runway at the time of landing and fell into the hill. 158 people died in this accident.

The pilot of the plane that crashed in Kozhikode was Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe and Captain Akhilesh Kumar. Captain Deepak Fighter was a pilot and an alumnus of the National Defense Academy. Captain Deepak, who received the Sword of Honor from the Air Force Academy, flew the MiG planes the most. Both these pilots gave their lives and saved the lives of many passengers.

Nine years before the plane crash, a member of a security advisory committee set up by the Ministry of Civil Aviation warned that the Karipur airport is unsafe and landing should not be allowed here. However, the incident on Friday shows that no one heeded his warning.

An Air India Express plane crashed and fell into a ditch while landing at Karipur Airport in Kozhikode, Kerala. Coming from Dubai, the aircraft had 191 passengers including pilots and crew members. The passengers on the plane were 128 men, 46 women, and 10 children. 18 people were killed and 123 were injured in the accident. At the same time, 15 people are seriously injured.

According to the information, the aircraft included in Air India is registered as Boeing 737-800 VT-AXH. This aircraft is 13.7 years old. In November 2006 it was awarded to Air India Express. Let us know that in the month of July, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had predicted technical flaws in all Boeing 737 aircraft. After this, the DGCA also gave directions for its investigation.

18 people, including two pilots, were killed in the plane crash. The pilot of this aircraft was Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe and Captain Akhilesh Kumar. Captain Sathe was a highly experienced pilot and was also awarded the Sword of Honor by the Air Force Academy. He was also trapped in Dubai due to Coronavirus and he was very happy to return to his homeland after a long time but what did he know that death awaits him. Sathe was an Air Force test pilot. Air force test pilots test on a number of aircraft. The pilot lost his life, saving the lives of most of the passengers.

The airport at Kozhikode in Kerala is geographically 'tabletop'. Meaning there is a moat around the runway. The weather was poor and visibility was also low, which was probably why the plane slipped after the runway missed and its front part was completely damaged. The tabletop runway is usually at the top of a plateau or mountain. It sometimes has a deep slope on one side or on both sides, below which there is a valley. As beautiful as such runways are, landing here is equally risky.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that two teams of professionals from Air India, Airports Authority of India, and Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will go to Kozhikode to investigate the accident. The rescue operation is now complete. The injured are being treated at various hospitals in the city.
