Rowdy Irfan succumbs to bullet injuries

Hubballi: Rowdy-sheeter Irfan alias Fruit Irfan, 45, who was shot at on Thursday evening, succumbed to bullet injuries at a private hospital at 12.30am on Friday.
As per the CCTV footage collected from a hotel near the Vishal Nagar-Karwar Road junction, a gang of four miscreants shot Irfan from a close range on Thursday evening.
Senior police officials have not yet released a statement over the shooting incident. However, police sources said that Irfan was injured at two places — on the head and in the thigh. Police had found a live bullet and an empty cartridge at the crime spot.
Irfan, a resident of Dharwad, came to Hubballi on Thursday for his son’s wedding at the hotel’s party hall.
Claiming anonymity, one of the investigation officers said: “After observing the CCTV footage of the hotel, it seems the miscreants waited for Irfan to come out of the hotel. The moment he did, two bike-borne persons rushed towards him, fired at him and fled.”
Irfan, a notorious rowdy, was externed by the previous police commissioner M N Nagaraj. The realtor has cases registered in the suburban and town police stations of Dharwad, police added.
