Though Chennai has reported a decrease in new Covid infections, the state has been seeing 100+ fatalities in past few days.

According to the Greater Chennai Corporation data, as many as 93,231 persons have recovered from COVID-19 in the city, which is an 87 percent recovery rate as on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, more than 1.07 (1,07,109) lakh cases were reported in the city.
On the other hand, only 11,606 persons are under treatment in the city, which is around 10.8 per cent.
The Greater Chennai Corporation might have brought the COVID-19 spread under control in the densely populated north Chennai zones and flattened the curve in central Chennai zones, but extended zones still continue to report the same active case rate that they had reported 15 days ago.
Four of the 15 zones - Manali, Tondiarpet, Royapuram and Teynampet have less than 10 percent active cases. With only 78 active cases, Manali zone has the lowest active case rate and highest recovery rate at 94 percent.
As per the data, 2,272 persons had died till Saturday morning due to the virus, which is 2.12 per cent mortality rate.
The latest reports said that around 13 people have died in Chennai since Friday night.
The highest death toll came from Rajiv Gandhi Hospital where 6 patients died. Two patients failed to respond to treatment at Kilpauk Hospital. Omanthoorar Govt Hospital, Stanley Hospital and three other private health facilities reported the death of one patient each.
