Edged and run down through slips for four from Woakes. England win by 3 wickets. Woakes, with 84*, the highest scorer in the innings and the hero for England. England win a thriller to go 1-0 up in the series.
Pressure for England again! Bess somehow manages to survive the Yasir Shah over. A tentative edge and an lbw appeal in the over. Woakes gets back on strike. He'll be looking to finish the game off surely. ENG 273/7, need 4 more to win.
Yasir Shah partners Shaheen with the new ball. Woakes cuts hard for a single to get Broad back on strike. And Yasir Shah gets him! Broad is Out! Lbw! Yasir's 4th wicket in the innings. What a finish to this match! Bess joins Woakes. ENG 273/7, need 4 more to win
Shaheen takes the second new ball. And he almost has an instant impact. Gets Woakes to inside edge straight on to his pads. Almost being the operative word. So many times today the ball has done *almost* what Pakistan have wanted it to do. And more frustration for Pakistan, with the third umpire calling a front foot no ball. Woakes chases a wide ball and hacks through third man to get two runs. And there is a boundary off the fifth ball of the over. 8 runs come off the over. ENG 272/6, need 5 more to win
Broad goes for the extravagant sweep against Yasir Shah as well. Woakes, on 71, being kept off the strike now. Not a good thing to happen for England's perspective. And Yasir Shah comes up with a couple of rippers that whizz past Woakes's bat. Woakes ends the over with a single. Pakistan's fast bowlers are loosening up. Surely time for the second new ball. ENG 264/6 after 80, need 13 more to win
Shadab Khan continues despite Broad's promotion. And Broad cracks him for four. Sweeps it cleanly for a cracking shot for four to square leg. David Lloyd not impressed with Pakistan's decision to bowl spin to Broad. Broad sweeps with power again later in the over but that goes to the fielder for one run. ENG 262/6 after 79, need 15 more to win
What a Test match this has been! Stuart Broad's batting promotion sums up how unpredictable this match has been! England 20 runs away. Pakistan 4 wickets away. 2 overs away from a second new ball burst. What a thrilling finish!
Buttler keeps taking big bites away from the runs remaining with couple of runs run down. But then he misses the reverse sweep. For once! And Buttler is Out! Buttler reviews against the LBW. Decision stays. Yasir Shah does get his man. Buttler falls for 75 off 101 balls. His innings has brought England to the shores of victory. Shadab brings a top edge from Buttler. Nearly chips it to deep midwicket but again the ball lands just short of the onrushing fielder. Pakistan going through their overs quickly now. Shadab Khan brought back as Pakistan look for a wicket from just about anywhere. Shadab pegs Woakes on the pad. And Pakistan go for their final Review with half-a-second remaining on the clock. Would have missed off stump. Pakistan lose their final Review. Yasir Shah bowls from the other end. Buttler brings out the reverse sweep again, this time for a single. Both batsmen keep rotating the strike. The game keeps slipping away from Pakistan. ENG 241/5 after 74, need 36 more to win
The batsmen are not going for the extravagant slashes like they were earlier. Shane Warne says on air the closer England are getting to the target, the more they will be thinking they cannot afford to play any loose shots. The camera pans to Root and Stokes, looking a lot more relaxed in the dressing room. With nothing happening for the quicks, Pakistan are looking to Yasir Shah to provide another impetus. They all go up in appeal as Yasir Shah claims a caught behind. Pakistan go for the Review but it stays Not Out. 1 Review left for Pakistan now. ENG 235/5 after 72, need 42 more to win
More despair for Pakistan. Yasir Shah gets Woakes to give off an edge but the ball falls again just short of babar Azam at second slip. So many of these catches have just landed short of the fielder in this innings. Woakes being the benefactor more than a couple of times. ENG 230/5 after 70, need 47 more to win
Shaheen Afridi tucked away for two by Buttler. No boundary has now been hit in the last 6 overs, with things reaching a head in Manchester. England are favourites now, but if Pakistan break this partnership now, there will be a game on again! ENG 225/5 after 68, need 52 more to win
Shaheen Afridi is brought back into the attack for one last roll of the dice by Pakistan perhaps. A drinks break is taken, with the Buttler-Woakes partnership touching triple digits. England now looking to move the score along with pushes and running hard between wickets. ENG 219/5 after 66, need 57 more to win

Naseem gets a top edge from Woakes, which lands just a foot away from a diving Yasir Shah. Suddenly everything going England's way again. Another half-chance to start off the next over, to be bowled by Abbas. Woakes chips it into the air but the ball falls just short of mid off. ENG 202/5 after 62 overs, need 75 more to win. And for the first time in two days, WinViz show England are favourites to win the 1st Test!
Another tight over from Abbas. Woakes has slowed down a touch, with England getting within a chance of challenging for a win. Pakistan go to Naseem Shah to get the breakthrough. And he brings up an appeal for caught behind against Buttler straightaway. Buttler has the last laugh in the over, pulling a perfectly timed shot for four. Buttler moves to 47 off 49 balls. Woakes times one to perfection to send Abbas past mid-on to the fence in the next over. On 38 now, this is his highest Test score in a year. ENG 194/5 after 60 overs, 83 more to win
Abbas bowls another tight over, Draws another outside edge from Woakes which squirts through the gully area. When Azhar Ali had his field up, Buttler and Woakes were crashing it through the gaps. Now the field is set back but Buttler and Woakes are playing it into the deep for ones and twos. ENG 183/5 after 57, need 94 more to win
Last session on Day 4 begins. Mohammad Abbas to bowl to Jos Buttler to start off. This might well be the last session of this Test. Only Broad, Bess, Jofra and Anderson to come after this. So one wicket will really tilt the match in Pakistan's favour. This pair though gives England a fair chance. Shadab Khan continues at the other end after Tea. Buttler ends the over with a crashing four off Shadab. ENG 176/5 after 55, need 101 runs to win
And that will be that for the second session. Another riveting session has seen England lose sight of the target with the wickets of Sibley, Root, Stokes and Pope but a 49-ball 50 partnership between Buttler and Woakes has shown them the light again. England need 110 more runs. Pakistan need 5 more wickets. Who will get there first? We resume in 20 minutes.
