According to a tweet from MLB Network reporter Jon Heyman, former St. Raphael All-Stater Chris Iannetta is "believed to be retiring."

Iannetta is currently on the Yankees restricted list and hasn’t played this season.

Drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the fourth round of the 2004 MLB Draft after playing three years at the University of North Carolina, he made his major league debut on Aug. 27, 2006, catching for the Rockies against the San Diego Padres. Iannetta lined out against Jake Peavy in his first MLB at-bat before collecting his first career hit, an RBI single off Peavy in the fifth inning of a 6-3 Colorado win.

Iannetta played six seasons in Colorado before moving on to play four seasons for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He spent 2016 playing for Seattle, suited up for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2017, then returned to Colorado for the last two seasons.

His final game would be against the same team that he made his major-league debut against. Playing the Padres on Aug. 10 last year, Iannetta hit a double off Craig Stammen for his final major-league hit, later scoring on a home run by Yonder Alonso. In his final MLB at-bat, Iannetta struck out swinging against Andres Munoz.

If Iannetta does, in fact, retire, he’ll finish his career with 141 home runs, 502 RBI and 449 runs.
