GURUGRAM: The highest number of Covid-19 deaths without comorbidities in Haryana were of patients in the age group of 51-60 years – mostly comprised of men – official death audit data has revealed.

So far, 458 people have died of Covid in the state, out of which 145 patients, or 32%, had no comorbid conditions. Out of these 145, a total of 35 people – 27 men and eight women -- or 24%, died in the 51-60 age group. The other age bracket that was one of the most affected was 61-70 years, in which 29 died. Over the age of 71 years, there were 27 deaths – 18 among 71-80 years of age, eight in the 81-90 category, and one among 91-100 years.
The toll of the virus on younger patients who have no other ailments has been a cause of concern. While 26 deaths were recorded in the age group of 41-50 years, 26 in the 31-40 age bracket died.
The youngest person to die without comorbidities was a two-day-old girl from Nuh. She had respiratory distress and her condition worsened on the third day of admission, when she started bleeding orally and went into shock and cardio failure.
A gender-wise breakdown shows that 72% of deaths without comorbidities were reported among males – 108 males succumbed as opposed to 37 females.
All 145 patients who died without comorbidities suffered from breathlessness. While 90 patients had pneumonitis, 29 had severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), 15 had acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and 11 had multiple organ failure.
“We are keeping a record of each Covid patient in order to evaluate the cause of death. We are still trying to join the dots to understand the patterns in cases of people dying without comorbidities so the cases can be handled better in the future,” said a senior health official.
Rajeev Arora, additional chief secretary, health, said, “Haryana’s fatality rate is low compared to the national average. We are conducting audits within six hours of Covid deaths.”
At 139, Faridabad has reported the highest number of deaths in the district so far.
