PUDUCHERRY: A team of six students from Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC) bagged the title in the Smart India Hackathon 2020, a national-level software contest organized by the Union human resources development ministry in association with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The team led by T Tanisa, a third-year B Tech (computer science and engineering) student, developed an innovative mobile application called CyberCop for women's safety especially in cyberspace.
The team bagged the title and Rs 1 lakh prize money.
The other members of the team are S Swetha, B Deepikashini, T S Roshini, Hrishikesh S Raj and Krishna Kumar Davuluri.
The mobile app helps women protect themselves from cyber threats in all forms and to ensure their safe travel as it issues live notifications warning them on dangerous locations. The app prevents any spyware from accessing the camera in the mobile phone and warns them on harmful SMS.
The highlight is that the app will alert the users if their photos are used online without their consent.
PEC associate professor (computer science and engineering) K Sathiyamurthy is the mentor for the team. PEC principal S Kothandaraman and head of computer science and engineering department R Manoharan congratulated the team members for their achievement. Professor (computer science and engineering) Ka Selvaradjou was the single point of contact for the college for the contest.
