CHENNAI: DMK treasurer S Durai Murugan on Friday denied a news report that he had been creating trouble in the party to get the general secretary post after the demise of veteran leader K Anbazhagan. Durai Murugan said he had not joined the party for any post.
The leader said he joined the party in 1953 after being inspired by former chief minister C N Annadurai’s Dravida Nadu ideology.
“Even if I did not get any post, I would have continued to serve the party as a primary member and continued to raise slogans for the party by holding its flag,” Durai Murugan said in a statement.
“I am beyond attachments. Many did not know that,” he said, pointing to a news article published by a regional newspaper.
After the demise of Anbazhagan, who had been the general secretary of the party for 43 years, Durai Murugan resigned from the treasurer post in March third week and submitted his resignation to party president M K Stalin. He expressed his interest in contesting for the general secretary post.
In June first week, Stalin said Durai Murugan would continue to be the treasurer of the party until the general council meet to elect the general secretary is held. Stalin said the general council was unable to meet due to the pandemic.
