Prof Pradeep Kumar Joshi appointed as UPSC chairman
Educationist Professor Pradeep Kumar Joshi was on Friday appointed as the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), that conducts the civil services examination to select India's bureaucrats and diplomats among others, officials said.
Joshi is currently a member in the Commission.
He will succeed Arvind Saxena who completes his term as UPSC chairman on Friday, officials said.

5 people dead, 10 rescued in a landslide at Idukki district's Rajamala: Kerala Police
Chief Minister's Office has contacted the IAF to provide helicopter services to Rajamala for rescue operations. It is expected to be available soon: Kerala CMO
The landslide occurred at a place where tea plantation workers reside. We don't know the exact numbers yet, but at least three families are stranded there, said Idukki SP.
National Disaster Response Force has been deployed to rescue the landslide victims in Idukki's Rajamala. Police, fire, forest and revenue officials also instructed to intensify rescue operation, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Telangana crosses 75K mark in Covid cases
Telangana on Friday announced 2,207 new Covid positive cases, which take the total to 75,257 cases by Thursday night, consisting of 65.6% men and 34.4% women.
The state suffered 12 Covid deaths afresh to take the total death toll to 601 so far, translating into a case fatality rate of 0.79% as against the national average of 2.07%.
Of the deceased, 46.13% died of Covid and 53.87% due to comorbidities. Telangana announced 1,136 recoveries over the past 24 hours to take the total recoveries to 53,239 persons, constituting a recovery rate of 70.7% as against the national average of 67.62%.
By Thursday night, the state saw 21,417 active cases, which include 14,837 persons in either home or institutional isolation where about 84% were asymptomatic.
Over the past 24 hours, Telangana tested 23,495 samples to take the total to 5,66,984 tests to date. The state said 1,539 reports are still awaited. The tests per million population amounted to 15,271.7 by Thursday.
