Bring DMK to power, M K Stalin tells cadre

CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin asked cadre to work hard to bring the party to power in the state, in a open letter to them on Thursday, the eve of former chief minister M Karunanidhi’s second death anniversary.
Recalling welfare initiatives undertaken by his father as chief minister, Stalin said from ensuring government jobs through reservation to establishing required educational, civic infrastructure to launching social welfare schemes like free rice and free electricity, the governments under Kalaignar (M Karunanidhi) had covered all aspects of people’s lives.
“At a time when the country’s federal system is under threat, the rights of states are being taken away, welfare schemes of the common people are being snatched away and some divisive forces are indulging in diversionary tactics, we need the presence of Kalaignar amidst us like never before,” Stalin said, urging them to bring the DMK to power in the state for the welfare of the people.
The opposition leader launched the Kalaignar memorial international virtual marathon, proceeds of which will be utilised to procure equipment for Covid-19 treatment and distributed to government hospitals in September. Entry fee for the run to be held from August 7 to 31 is Rs 300.
