First Kisan Rail will hit the tracks today

NEW DELHI: India’s first Kisan Rail, exclusively meant to transport farm produce, will be flagged off on Friday. The train, which will have a weekly service, will run from Devlali (Nashik) in Maharashtra to Danapur (Patna) in Bihar.
Railway ministry said this first Kisan Special parcel train, which will be flagged off by agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar and railway minister Piyush Goyal, will cover the 1,519 km in about 32 hours.
Devlali falls under Maharashtra’s Bhusawal division adjoining Nashik which is known for its vegetables, onion, fruits and flowers. These perishables are mainly transported to areas around Patna, Prayagraj and Katni. The train will have stoppages at different stations carrying vegetables, fruits and other agri produce.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced this special train in her last budget speech.
