Rainwater leak inside Navi Mumbai civic body head office receives flak

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) head office building at Belapur
NAVI MUMBAI: The leakage of rainwater inside the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) head office building at Belapur during the recent spell of heavy rains since Wednesday has received heavy criticism from activists. A video of water seen on the office floor as the civic staff hurriedly shift their files and chairs has also gone viral.
However, the civic officials said that it was only a minor glitch that led to water leak, which has been blown out of proportion by a section of the media.
"There was a little technical issue with a duct that led to some rainwater enter the ground floor. However, the issue was quickly resolved and there is no property damage. There was also no problem in the server room, which is on a higher floor," said a civic PRO.
However, RTI activist Anarjit Chauhan commented: "The iconic NMMC head-office building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 220 crore. Its maintenance is done with the taxpayers' funds. Hence, it is rather strange that such an embarrassing situation should arise due to some faulty duct. NMMC must pull up whosoever is responsible for this rainwater leak."
