Nathan Brown agrees to three-year Warriors deal

Nathan Brown has agreed to a three-year deal to coach the Warriors after ruling himself out of the running for the North Queensland job.

Brown was scheduled to be interviewed for the job vacated by Paul Green at the Cowboys today, but has withdrawn to instead take over at the Warriors.

Brown's Warriors contract will be signed off today and an official announcement is likely to come tomorrow.

Caretaker coach Todd Payten knocked back the chance to become the full-time replacement for Stephen Kearney and is on the shortlist for the Cowboys job.

Brown was considered the early favourite for the Warriors job given he was on staff as a consultant and has a close relationship with recruitment manager Peter O'Sullivan. However, he pulled out of the running a month ago, stating the role "doesn't fit at this stage". However, Brown had a change of heart and decided to take up the role after speaking with club owner Mark Robinson in recent days.

Brown was coy when asked about the Warriors job on Thursday night, telling Triple M: "The timing wasn't right six or eight weeks ago. There were certain things going on in my life.

"There's limited [jobs] about and a lot of coaches that want them. Like the Cowboys they've got some good younger players coming through and some good senior players.

"Both clubs have potential to grow with good junior bases. You don't know if a job is attractive until you talk to the people in charge and where they're at with recruitment and how much time they've got.

"I'm a career coach and I love coaching. The Warriors job is a great opportunity, as is the Cowboys job. I'm always in dialogue with the Warriors as I actually work with them as a consultant."

Gould, who has applied to become an accredited player agent, has been sounded out about a number of league roles, including as a consultant to the NRL. The premiership-winning coach on Thursday said the Warriors job was "one of several opportunities I am considering."

"Basically, the owners and CEO are looking for assistance on strategic issues into the future," Gould told the Herald.

"Most significant would be player development and pathways. This would include their relationship with NZRL."
