Featuring age-old memories of the Kapoor family alongside regal interiors, the actor's Juhu bungalow brims with must-see corners. Take the full tour below
From classics like Mr India (1987) and Parinda (1989) to landmark movies Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), veteran actor Anil Kapoor has carved a solid niche for himself with his performances during his three-decade-long career. Recently, the actor’s children—producer and stylist Rhea Kapoor, and actor Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor—gave followers a detailed tour of the family’s bungalow in Mumbai’s Juhu neighbourhood. Though Sonam Kapoor Ahuja shuttles between her homes in London, Delhi, and Mumbai, her childhood home is, of course, where her fondest memories lie. The bungalow, which has a net value of Rs 30 crore, is decades old, but has been given a makeover by Anil Kapoor’s wife Sunita Kapoor. In a nostalgic IGTV video, Rhea revealed how special this home is to her and her siblings, “In a way it’s our home that helped us stay glued to each other all these years and has actually become the foundation for the bond that we have today.”
If you've always wanted to know what the inside of the Kapoor mansion looks like, it's time to take a virtual tour. From the Kapoors' plush family living room to Rhea and Harsh’s contrasting bedrooms, here's a look at all the must-see corners of Anil Kapoor’s residence.
As soon as one enters the Kapoor home, they’re met by a splash of beautiful art pieces. A large Pichwai painting of Lord Krishna takes centre stage, and the framed piece greets guests surrounded by figurines of cows rendered in gold. The white marble floor holds quite a few plush fixtures, from gold vessels and an intricately woven dari to a glossy vase holding an indoor plant. A dark wood pillar features on one side, mounted with precious sculptures in glass encasings, and more portraits of deities take over the rest of the space.
Another standout feature of the Kapoors' lobby is the decorative staircase that spans the multi-storeyed home. White marble steps feature alongside a black railing in the form of vines, and on your way up to the den, you’ll spot a tall French-style wood-panelled window that opens out to lots of greenery. Pendant lights and several artworks turn even the smallest corners of the mansion into a picture-perfect space. Fun fact: the foot of the staircase happens to Harsh Varrdhan’s go-spot for OOTD photographs, and every once in a while, the Kapoor kids spot their parents sitting here for quiet late night chats too.
“The den is like the heart of the house, because we have lunches and our dinners with our friends and family, Raksha Bandhan, cousins' dinners every couple of months. It’s intimate but it’s got a vibe. There's a lot of warmth, and a lot of memories in this room,” Rhea revealed in her video, speaking of this space, which is replete with framed family photographs and other trinkets of sentimental value. This expansive room, which comes with warm wooden furnishing, features a dining area on one side and a cosy, old-world sitting area on the other.
The Kapoors’ picture-perfect lounging area features a rich brown tufted leather couch topped off with a combination of solid orange and patterned cushions. A winged off-white lounge chair sits alongside facing a low coffee table in the centre. The table showcases a combination of floral works, books, and an intricate gold sculpture. Other side tables here serve as displays for more favourites: black and gold lamps, candles and much more. A Renaissance-style painting features on the wall, surrounded by oversized gold leaf installations.
The Kapoor family's dining + meeting area, however, features a sleek oval table surrounded by snowy white chairs. A chunky cuboid light fixture dawns upon the setting, giving this spot a more modern vibe in comparison to the sitting area. The den also comes with a balcony, hidden from you by white blinders. A functional workstation sits here, where Anil Kapoor did his first reading with son Harsh Varrdhan.
In an exclusive video interview with Vogue India a few years ago, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja gave us the full tour of her dressing area, which shares the same floor as the den. The brightly lit walk-in closet features brown and white interiors and houses some of Kapoor Ahuja's favourite and most-talked about clothes, shoes and accessories. A sunburst pattern is the leitmotif of this room, which serves as the mutual fitting room for all three siblings. Plenty of wardrobe space, warm wooden flooring, glass windows with minimal white blinders, mirrors, and a round centre table with flowers are the standout elements of this room.
Harsh Varrdhan and Rhea’s bedrooms sit right across from each other, and the setting is ideal for the siblings, who often hang out together late into the night. Harsh Varrdhan’s room may be minimalistic (think simple white walls and upholstery, and classic brown furnishings), but the one eye-catching detail in his space is his extensive collection of sneakers, showcased near the doorway.
For Rhea, her all-white bedroom is her “haven” and “sanctum”. Soothing hues of ivory and green, along with lots of scented candles, leafy wallpapers, and little pastel artworks characterise the space. “The most vivid memories of this room are spending time with Sonam in the bed or Harsh coming in and sitting on the chair. Honestly, my greatest conversations with my family have happened in this room,” the producer relayed.

A full-size projector screen plays hero in the Kapoor family's cosy media room, along with ivory couches, lounge chairs and a reclining leather massage chair. As it turns out, the two giant speakers in the back of the room were installed by Anil Kapoor when he first built this house. One wall of the room holds two much-loved fixtures, the first being a rendition of Anil Kapoor on the poster of Harsh Varrdhan’s 2018 film, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero. Why? The actor believes that his father would have been the perfect choice for the character if the film had been made in the ’90s. Next to this artwork, in a closet, is the family’s boundless collection of films. Harsh Varrdhan revealed the hidden gems he’s discovered during the lockdown period, which include The Loudest Voice, Tiger King, a documentary on the Australian cricket team, as well as the book Low by Jeet Thayil.
