Covid warriors to be awarded

Gurgaon: Frontline workers on Covid-19 duty, including doctors, health department staff and employees of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), will be awarded this year at the annual Independence Day celebrations.
In a meeting convened by deputy commissioner Amit Khatri on Thursday, the arrangements for Independence Day celebrations were reviewed. Khatri said that this year the I-Day function will be organised following the Covid-19 protocol and each attendee will have to wear masks and ensure social distancing.
“The sanitation workers, other MCG employees and frontline workers of the health department will be awarded. The departments have been told to submit names of such workers and other employees till August 11. Nominations can be sent through e-mail to ctmgrg@gmail.com or applications can be submitted to room number 112 in Mini Secretariat. The list of awardees will be finalised by August 12 and they will be tested for Covid-19 on August 13. The civil surgeon has ensured that their reports will be released on August 14 so that they can attend the function accordingly,” said the spokesperson of the district administration.
He said that freedom fighters and war widows are always invited to the I-Day celebrations. However, this year they will be honoured at their homes since most of them are senior citizens and should remain indoors due to the risk of Covid-19.
Moreover, deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala will be the chief guest on the occasion this year. The schedule of the I-Day function, however, will be the same except any cultural programmes. It will start with flag hoisting and then conclude with an award function for frontline workers.
