Heavy rains lash many parts of India

Heavy rains are lashing several parts of the country, throwin normal life out of gear. In Kerala, heavy rain across the state triggered landslides in many hilly regions.

A massive landslide occured in Rajamala in Idukki district early hours today. Fifteen people have lost their lives and many are feared to be trapped under soil.

As per official data15 dead bodies were recoverd from the region and many more are feared to be buried under soil. Rescue and search operations by State and National Disaster Response force are on war footing in the region.Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that a total of 15 persons have been rescued and all efforts are underway to find the rest of the missing persons.

While in Karnataka, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa who is undergoing treatment for Covid 19 viral infection, spoke to Chief Secretary Vijay Bhaskar over telephone today and instructed him to proceed with emergency measures without waiting for his approval.

Expressing concern over landslides in Talacauvery, he asked District Incharge minister V Somanna to oversee the rescue operation that is on to locate the priest and his family members missing since the landslide.

The Raichur incharge minister Lakshman Savadi held a meeting today to evaluate the situation emerging due to the rising water levels of Krishna River. He asked officials to be prepared for the eventuality as Maharashtra has released excess water from Koyna dam. Raichur Assistant Commissioner Santosh Kamegowda has informed that NDRF teams are ready to meet any eventuality.
