Ambala recorded its 19th death due to Covid-19 as a 66-year-old man died at PGIMER, Chandigarh on Thursday night while the district reported 79 positive cases, said
civil surgeon Dr Kuldeep Singh.
"A 66-year-old man of Milap Nagar, Ambala died of Covid-19 at PGIMER, Chandigarh on Thursday night. He was a patient of Psoriasis, skin disease, and its medication decreases the immune system of the human body. There was a positive patient at his residence too and he did not take treatment despite Covid symptoms. He first came to the civil hospital, Ambala City, and was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh in a serious condition where he died on Thursday night," he said.
Of the 79 positive cases, 20 are from Ambala Cantonment areas, 15 each from Ambala City and Naraingarh, 14 from Shahzadpur, 10 from Mullana and five from Chourmastpur, said Dr Kuldeep.
A total of 73 patients also got discharged on Friday, taking the recovery count to 1,596.
"With the recovery rate of 81.18 per cent, the case tally reached 1,966 in Ambala on Friday, of which, 1,596 patients got discharged, 19 died and 351 are active cases," he said.
"So far, we have collected a total of 41,125 samples for Covid-19 testing in Ambala and collected 33,563 samples per 10 lakh population in the district," he added.
MMU hostel converted to Covid Care CentreDr Kuldeep said, "Increasing the facility for isolation of Covid-19 patients, the district administration has established a Covid Care Centre at a hostel of Maharishi Markandeshwar University (MMU) campus at Sadopur village on Ambala-Chandigarh road".
"We have admitted about 20 patients there and the facility has individual rooms and it is functional since Wednesday. Our doctors are visiting the Covid care centre thrice in a day and it is separate from the university campus".
