The central government has announced a new education policy. Every state is assessing it accordingly. The Delhi government, which will bring fundamental changes in the education sector and spend the largest part of its budget on this sector, is also no exception to this issue. Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia say with great disdain that the basic principles of the policy are better, but no action plan has been presented by the Center to implement it. At the same time, the Delhi government has already implemented many other schemes including Happiness Curriculum. Amar Ujala correspondent Rashmi Sharma spoke in detail on the new education policy by Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Here are the major excerpts.

How do you see the new national education policy?

The basic principles of the new education policy are good, but there is no clarity on how to apply this. There is confusion on how to achieve the reforms mentioned in the policy. There was a nationwide discussion on this policy. There is talk of character building but how it will happen is not told.

How do you consider the move to provide mother tongue education in the policy?

The good thing in this policy is that up to the fifth will be studied in the mother tongue or regional language. This will make it easier for the student to learn any foreign language. Teaching in the mother tongue is a welcome step.

Will private schools be able to provide education in the mother tongue?

Foundation level education in the mother tongue is a good step. But it should not be imposed. It should be left to the school. It should depend on the school. However, the government should promote its move so that parents and schools are assured. The central government should conduct research at the national level. Flexibility in policy is necessary.

Twelfth board exams, then justification to get an exam from NTA for admission till graduation seems okay?

If the NTA is to be tested for admission to graduation, then what is the rationale of the XII Board Examination. The child will remain entangled in the examinations. If you want to see the performance of the child for admission, then just take the examination from NTA.

Should the twelfth board finish if the NTA exam is conducted for higher education?

Do not end the board and the board should continuously evaluate the child. In the US, a child of 12th is evaluated from the beginning. Other countries are not providing board exams to children. Board continuous assessment. There should not be a board exam only once a year, for which children are in a hurry. The board should have a mechanism that the child should be evaluated.

Is the Delhi government striving for continuous assessment of the child?

We are creating a separate board of Delhi for continuous evaluation of the child. Through this board, the teacher will continue to evaluate what is being taught and tell the teacher.

No confusion from CBSE and Delhi board?

There are two boards in the states, we will introduce this board in some schools. When it starts functioning smoothly, other schools will join it. A committee has been formed for this which is working. This board is expected to start from the next session. If private schools want to join then they will be asked.

What should have happened in the entire national education policy?

There should be a line in the overall policy that India now decides that we will guarantee good education in government schools to all our children. A fixed time would be fixed for this.

Will not privatization be encouraged by calling foreign institutions and universities?

It is good to call foreign universities in higher education. Still goes to Howard reading from the country. Children going to Howard will be able to read it again. Professionalism will increase by giving opportunities to outside universities. Our universities will also be able to pay attention to quality.

Delhi government is spending the most on education in the last six years. Can it be cut during the corona period?

No one can deny that the crisis is greater. Government revenue has declined sharply. The government is trying to improve in this direction. Still, it is not possible to say how much will be possible. This will reduce the budgetary allocation of each region. The education sector is also included in this. Despite this, the budget for education will be comparatively high. The government will not allow its plans to be neutralized.
