Beijing has first new local virus case in a week
- China's capital is reporting its first new case of locally transmitted COVID-19 in a week.
- State media said Friday the case in Beijing is linked to a recent outbreak in the northern port city of Dalian. Beijing has registered only a few scattered new cases since containing a June outbreak linked to a wholesale food market.
Curfew withdrawn in south Assam town
- Curfew was withdrawn from Malugram police output areas of south Assam's Silchar town on Friday, four days after it was clamped, as there was no report of any untoward incident, as per an order by the Cachar district authorities.

Emami reports over 1% rise in Q1 profit at Rs 39 crore
- Homegrown FMCG firm Emami Ltd on Friday reported a 1.17 per cent increase in its consolidated profit-after-tax (PAT) to Rs 39.58 crore for the first quarter ended June.
- The company had posted a PAT of Rs 39.12 crore during the April-June quarter of the previous fiscal, Emami said in a regulatory filing.
11 Assam Assembly employees test COVID-19 positive ahead of session
- Eleven employees of the Assam Legislative Assembly have tested positive for COVID-19 on a single day, ahead of the scheduled commencement of a session from August 31, a senior official said on Friday.
- The Assembly administration is testing all its employees with the help of the Health Department.
- "We are conducting rapid antigen tests on all our employees. In three days till Thursday, 270 of our staff were tested, of which 11 tested positive for the infection on the previous day," Assembly Principal Secretary Mrigendra Kumar Deka said.

Rescuers in Lebanon recover more bodies days after blast
- Rescue teams were still searching the rubble of Beirut's port for bodies on Friday, nearly three days after a massive explosion sent a wave of destruction through Lebanon's capital, killing nearly 150 people and wounding thousands.
- At least four more bodies have been recovered in the last 24 hours, and authorities say the death toll has risen to 149.
- The blast shredded a large grain silo, devastated neighbourhoods near the port and left several city blocks littered with glass and rubble.
Switzerland signs vaccine deal with Moderna
- The Swiss federal government has struck a deal with Moderna to supply Switzerland with 4.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine if the US biotech firm successfully develops one.

India seizes 740 tonnes of chemical that caused Lebanon blast
- Indian customs authorities have seized a container with 740 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, the chemical that caused this week's deadly blast in Lebanon's capital.

BCCI claims "in principle" govt approval for IPL in UAE; teams begin quarantining players

Kerala: Major landslide near Munnar
