Well-renowned South African coach Gavin Hunt hopes to land a new gig immediately after vacating his post at Bidvest Wits when the 2019/20 season concludes.

The 56-year-old will be without a job next month after the Clever Boys accepted a bid from GladAfrica Championship side Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) status of the 2016/17 Absa Premiership champions.

TTM CEO Sello Chokoe has openly spoken about the Limpopo club not being able to afford the services of the four-time PSL-winning coach Hunt.

If that is the case, it would leave Hunt without a coaching job for the first time in his 25-year career which started in 1995 at Cape Town-based outfit Seven Stars.

In 1998, Hunt moved to Stars' then-rivals Hellenic before moving up north to Limpopo to mentor Black Leopards but shortly after, he took on the mammoth task of bringing stability at Sowetan giants Moroka Swallows.

He remained at the club for five years between 2002 and 2007.

However, it was at SuperSport United where he enhanced his reputation to new heights as he guided the Tshwane side to three consecutive Premiership titles from 2007/08 – 2009/10.

Hunt also applied and was considered for the big job at national side Bafana Bafana after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but it was then handed to Pitso Mosimane at the time.

And now, seven years into his reign at Wits, the sale means that Hunt will need a new club again.

"I need to keep my feet on the grass, I like to train every day," said Hunt during a PSL-held virtual press conference ahead of Wits’ massive Nedbank Cup semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

"Everybody tells me to wait and sit around but I need to get work in again.

"Hopefully something (coaching job) will come up and we can go from there," said Hunt.

The PSL will resume over the weekend following a nearly five-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Cup football will be first on the agenda as Free State giants Bloemfontein Celtic take on the Baroka FC – kick-off is at 14:00 – followed by Masandawana clashing against Wits at 19:15 in the Gauteng bio-bubble at Orlando Stadium which the PSL created to complete the 2019/20 campaign.
