LUCKNOW: A 47-year-old police inspector, who was posted in UP's Shahjahanpur as SHO Allahaganj, died in Lucknow after testing positive for Covid-19 in the wee hours of Thursday.
Deceased Indrajeet Singh Bhadauriya had tested thrice negative for Covid-19 in Shahjahanpur. His friends and family members were in a state of shock.
Superintendent of police, Shahjahanpur, S Anand, told TOI that a day after Bhadauriya returned from Meerut training school on July 23 complained of cold, congestion and heavy breathing.
“We immediately got him tested for Covid-19 in which he was negative and then asked him to take a rest. However, a few days later after getting no relief and the symptoms continuing another test for Covid-19 was taken in which again he tested negative,” Anand told TOI.
Later, a third test for the virus was again done and he was found to be negative but the symptoms of cold and cough continued.
“I personally suggested Bhadauriya to get himself tested in Lucknow on July 31 seeing no improvement in his health,” the SP said.
On August 1, he tested positive for Covid-19 in Lucknow while being admitted for treatment of cough and congestion at Apollo hospital.
“He was later shifted to another private hospital Mayo and was recovering but on August 4 his condition began deteriorating and later he died after being on ventilator for a day,” the district police chief said. There was no time for him to be shifted to SGPGI.
TOI also contacted doctors who said that the deceased had a respiratory failure while his lungs were completely damaged. “Bhaduariya also had diabetes,” the doctor said.
