Stalin asks TN govt to do away with e-passes for inter-district travel

CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin on Thursday asked the Tamil Nadu government to do away with the need for e-passes for inter-district travel. By creating artificial scarcity, the system for obtaining e-passes has paved way for rampant corruption, even while putting common people into hardships.
"It has been almost five months since the lockdown came into force. This has created hardships for people in sustaining their livelihood. While the state government has subsequently relaxed restrictions in phases, it is continuing with the need for e-passes for inter-district travel. Even though the government has said e-passes will be given to people for medical emergencies and travelling to attend funerals, people were not able to obtain them even after trying ten times," Stalin said.
"While the Centre has done away with e-passes, why is the Tamil Nadu government still holding on to such restrictions, especially when common people are suffering in sustaining their livelihood," Stalin asked.
"The AIADMK government seems to think that it is enough if the chief minister and his cabinet ministers travel across districts," Stalin wondered.
