A view of an apartment at Narayanaguda in HyderabadHYDERABAD: Vigilance wing of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has registered criminal cases against 20 flat owners of an apartment in the city, for possessing illegal water connections.
Based on the HMWS&SB Narayanaguda section official’s complaint on possessing the illegal water connection, the Narayanaguda police have registered 20 criminal cases under sections 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 430 (Mischief by injury to works of irrigation or by wrongfully diverting water) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to HMWS&SB chief vigilance officer, M Ravi Chandan Reddy, on course of our inspection on the apartment located at (Beside Melkote Park) Vittalwadi in Narayanaguda, we found two illegal water connections at the water sump.
“As per the HMWS&SB’s rule, one premise should have one water connection, but in this case, we have found an additional water connection. After the raid, we have disconnected both the water connections on the spot,” chief vigilance officer, B Ravi Chandan Reddy told TOI.
Notices will be served regarding payment of the water bills, in a day or two to the flat owners. The water connection will be restored after duly paying the amount stipulated in the new water connection charges, to the Water Board, added the CVO.
The punishment for this offence is up to five years imprisonment, said the Water Board’s CVO.
