Faridabad crosses Gurugram’s tally, tops Haryana now in Covid cases

GURUGRAM: Faridabad on Wednesday overtook Gurugram’s Covid-19 case load, with 169 new cases taking the district’s tally to 9,508, the highest in the state. Gurugram currently has 9,398 cases.
Till Tuesday, Gurugram had 9,344 cases while Faridabad had 9,339.
Faridabad had earlier overtaken Gurugram in the number of Covid-19 deaths and active cases as well. The district has 967 active cases while 136 patients have succumbed to the infection.
With a view to evaluate the reason for the rapid increase in cases in Faridabad, the district is conducting a sero survey, wherein samples of 5,000 people are being taken to evaluate the infection rate.
“We had conducted a sero survey earlier with 290 samples, now we plan to test more people,” Yashpal Yadav, deputy commissioner of Faridabad said.
Meanwhile, Gurugram added 64 new cases on Wednesday. The health department said 95 people also recovered on the day, bringing the total number of recoveries to 8,548. One person succumbed to the infection.
So far, 125 people have died of Covid-19 in Gurugram. Of these, 87 people had comorbidities.
Since July 29, Gurugram has been reporting less than 100 cases a day.
“There are certain areas which have the potential to turn into hotspots. We are monitoring them and also keeping a close watch on home isolation cases to improve our recovery rate,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer, Gurugram.
So far, 1,18,720 people have been put under surveillance in Gurugram. The health department has sent 1,12,870 samples for testing, of which 1,00,753 returned negative, while the results of 1,390 are still awaited.
Till now, more than 6.8 lakh people in the state have been tested for Covid-19.
