Crime Branch arrests woman in flesh trade raid

Panaji: Crime Branch police arrested an alleged woman pimp and rescued a victim woman from prostitution during a raid conducted at a location in Mungul-Margao near rail over bridge on Wednesday evening. Since July 20, the Crime Branch police have arrested 3 alleged women pimps in 3 separate cases and rescued 4 women.

The alleged accused arrested during Wednesday’s raid has been identified as Manisha alias Nisha Sayam (31), residing at Nuvem and originally from Nagpur-Maharashtra. The victim, aged 27, originally from West Bengal, has been sent to the state-run protective home at Merces.

The raid was conducted by the Crime Branch team led by PIs Satish Gawde, Filomeno Costa, Somnath Mahajik, PSI Nitin Halarnkar and other police personnel.

Police said that the raid was conducted based on specific information received from sources pertaining to a woman delivering a girl to a prospective customer at Mungul near rail over bridge. Following which a trap was laid and the alleged accused woman was arrested and the victim rescued.

An offence has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act. PI Filomeno Costa is investigating the case.
