MANGALURU:
Dakshina Kannada district administration has decided to celebrate Independence Day without any cultural programmes, but instead it will be an occasion to honour
Covid Warriors, who toiled to support government's fight against coronavirus.
The district administration will honour doctors, Asha workers,
civic workers and policemen, who did exemplary jobs during the fight against the pandemic. The district administration will identify those meritorious persons soon and felicitate them on August 15.
Deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra said that restrictions will be in place during the Independence Day celebrations in the wake of increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the district. “Social distancing should be maintained and all participants should wear masks during the celebration. There will be no cultural programmes during the flag hoisting ceremony to be held at Nehru Maidan in the city. We have decided to hold a special felicitation ceremony during the Independence Day exclusively for Covid Warriors. The exemplary services of paurakarmikas, cleaning workers, Asha workers, policemen and doctors will be identified and they will be felicitated on the occasion,” he said.
Since the celebration will be a low key event, arrangements will be made for the public to view the programme live through various online platforms. While live webcast will be available on social medias, digital screen will be placed at a main circle in the city for people to watch the programme live, the DC said and requested people show their patriotism by watching Independence Day programmes at home. He has held a preparatory meeting and directed officials to make necessary arrangements.
