CHENNAI: The pandemic has put the entire world at serious economic distress, and the impact gets worse as we go lower down on the pay-scale. In these difficult times, the affordable housing programmes, such as the one being implemented in Tamil Nadu, could provide respite for many, claims a report released by the World Bank.

It’s to be noted that the affordable housing programme in the State is being financed by the World Bank. As per the report, close to half of Tamil Nadu’s population lives in the cities (48.4%). The urban population in the State is expected to touch 63% by the year 2030.

“The State has not been able to meet the increased demand for housing and urban services,” the report adds. The report also stated that TN’s fiscal policy framework is adequate for the extension of Development Financing Policy — an assistance provided by the Bank to its clients.
