The government of Dubai recently announced that the said city is set to reopen its events sector and can host live events once again including indoor and outdoor concerts as well as private events, such as weddings. However, the reopening of the sector comes with stringent social distancing guidelines that will continue to be in place to fight against COVID-19.
All event venues are required to organise a staggered entry for ticket holders. It will also be necessary for guests to exit row-by-row via marked walkways after the event. Use of online ticketing system is being encouraged but upon requirement of making a purchase from the box office, usage of floor markers that ensure social distancing in a queue has been advised.
It is mandatory for all guests and staff to wear masks throughout an event. Meanwhile, performers are permitted to remove their mask provided that they are at least four metres away from the audience. All physical interaction with performers and fans has also been restricted. Some routines have also been advised to be modified or shortened to maintain social distancing and limit the amount of physical contact.
Organisers of seated concerts have been asked to keep two seats between each group of people or solo persons, even in the VIP areas of the venue. On the other hand, markers on the floor to guide guests to stand in places where proper distancing can be observed has been advised for standing events. Indoor events are also subject to limited capacity, so that one person has four metres of space around them.
In addition, sanitation guidelines have been introduced to outline a strict list of protocol for both the build-up to an event, during, and after the event. In terms of food and beverage, pre-packaged food would be preferred. Buffet can be arranged provided that social distancing is maintained and no self-serve is allowed. As of now nightclubs have been excluded from the action.
