Bugatti Divo Development Ends After 2 Years As Deliveries Of The $5.9 Million Hypercar Begin

After detailing the testing and validation process of each car last month, Bugatti has started shipping the first units of the Divo.

At €5 million ($5.9 million) a pop, excluding taxes and options, this is one seriously expensive hypercar, though “a must-have for any Bugatti collection”, according to Stephan Winkelmann, the automaker’s president.

“The Divo marks a milestone in Bugatti’s history, spanning over 110 years. The Divo will now enter our history books, alongside the cutting-edge Veyron and Chiron hyper sports cars. [It] starts a new era at Bugatti – the era of modern coachbuilding. With the Divo, we have created a highly customized masterpiece of automotive craftsmanship”, he added.

Built to revive the French brand’s tradition of coachbuilding, the Divo is limited to 40 units and is based on the Chiron, although it shares very little of its styling. In fact, the custom body improves the airflow, resulting in 198 lbs (90 kg) more downforce over the more ‘mainstream’ Chiron. It features complex taillights, with 44 fins lighting up to create a special effect, tiny headlamps with a narrow light opening measuring just 1.4 inches (35 mm) and boomerang DRLs that extend into the quarter panels.

Unsurprisingly, the Divo uses the W16 engine of the Chiron, with 8.0-liters in displacement and four turbocharges that give it a staggering torque curb, with 1,180 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) developed at 2,000-6,000 rpm, and 1,479 HP (1,500 PS / 1,103 kW) produced at 6,700 rpm. The Divo takes 2.4 seconds to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) and its top speed has been limited to 236 mph (380 km/h). It also returns 6.7/15.5/10.5 mpg (35.2/15.2/22.5 lt/100 km) in city/highway/combined on the WLTP cycle, although we doubt that any of its owners will ever be bothered with such trivial stuff.
