LUCKNOW: The bhoomi pujan for the Ram temple at Ayodhya was performed during the same “muhurat (auspicious time)” as the one in which Ram is said to have been born.
Members of the 300-year-old Kashi Vidvat Parishad (KVP) — a body of Vedic, Puranic and Hindu religious scholars that plays a role in the appointment of the Shankaracharya as well — conducted the ceremony.
The main priest, Gangadhar Pathak, led the puja performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Pathak said he considered himself lucky to be part of the much-awaited moment. He said it was an honour for him to have a “yajman (worshipper)” like the Prime Minister.
The group of priests comprised former BHU dean Ram Chandra Pandey, BHU astrology department head Vinay Pandey, Jai Prakash Tripathi and Arun Dixit from Varanasi, and Chandra Bhanu Sharma from New Delhi.
