Covid casualties and 978
fresh cases of the novel
coronavirus in by far the biggest single-day spike in new infections on Wednesday. The positivity rate of samples tested on Wednesday also registered a massive spike with 18.78% of 5,290 samples testing positive.
The onslaught of fresh
cases came a day after the district officials got some respite as for the first time in five weeks the number of new infections (399) was lower than the number of recoveries (426).
The number of covid-19 cases crossed the 15k-mark in state, with the caseload now at 15,048, of which 9,086 are active, 5826 have recovered (including 584 on Wednesday) and 136 have succumbed to the viral infection.
Godda saw an all-time spike in number of cases on a single-day in any district with 339 fresh cases on Wednesday, taking the district total to 547. State capital Ranchi with 141 fresh cases while East Singhbhum and Bokaro reported 72 and 71 fresh infections respectively.
Of the seven casualties reported on Wednesday, three are from Ranchi and one each from East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Giridih and Khunti. “All the seven patients had different co-morbidities and were admitted to our various Covid-19 centres,” said a health department official.
