Poor women to get sanitary napkins, milk for children

Gurgaon: At a district-level program in Nuh (formerly Mewat), Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday launched two state government schemes aimed at better menstrual health management among adolescent girls and women and reducing malnutrition among the children.
Under the ‘Mukhya Mantri Doodh Uphar Yojana’, 200 ml of fortified, flavoured skimmed milk would be given six days a week to pregnant and lactating mothers, and children aged one to six. Under the ‘Mahila Avm Kishori Samman Yojana’, women aged 10-45 from families below the poverty line will be provided free sanitary napkins every month for a year.
“The milk will be given to meet their daily requirement of vitamin A and D. The milk powder will be made available at the village level by Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited,” said deputy commissioner Pankaj.
The district administration officials said ‘Mahila Avm Kishori Samman Yojana’ is dedicated towards encouraging healthy and scientific methods of menstrual health management among the women and adolescent girls.
According to women and child development minister Kamlesh Dhanda, the first scheme would reach over 9 lakh children and 2.95 lakh pregnant and lactating mothers in the state.
