Covid-19: Kerala reports 1,195 positive cases and 1,234 recoveries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Positive cases, contact cases and recoveries crossed the 1,000-mark on Wednesday with 1,195 new cases, 1,004 happening due to contact and 1,234 recoveries. The total cases reported in state rose to 29,151, of which 11,492 are active.
Of the local transmission cases, source of 79 remain unknown. There are 66 cases among those who arrived from foreign countries and 125 from other states. Seven Covid deaths were reported in the state. Purushothaman (66), Prabhakaran (73) and Marakkar Kutty (70) from Kozhikode, Asanar Haji (76) from Kasaragod, Abdul Salam (58) from Kollam, Yashoda (58) from Kannur and George Devassy (82) from Ernakulam are the deceased.
Thiruvananthapuram continued to report maximum new cases at 274, followed by Malappuram (167), Kasaragod (128), Ernakulam (120), Alappuzha (108), Thrissur (86), Kannur (61), Kottayam (51), Palakkad (41), Idukki (39), Kozhikode (39), Pathanamthitta(37), Kollam(30) and Wayanad (14).
The details of contact cases are as follows, 264 in Thiruvananthapuram, 138 in Malappuram, 119 in Kasaragod, 91 in Alappuzha, 83 in Ernakulam, 54 in Thrissur, 41 in Kannur, 38 in Kottayam, 35 in Kozhikode, 32 in Idukki, 24 in Pathanamthitta, 20 in Palakkad, 18 in Kollam and 14 in Wayanad. As many as 13 healthcare workers were diagnosed with the disease of which four are from Kozhikode, three in Thiruvananthapuram, two in Ernakulam, one each in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram and Kannur. Among contact cases are 12 KSE employees and three are in Thrissur, three INHS personnel in Ernakulam and two DSC personnel in Kannur are among the infected.
Till date, 17,537 people were cured. As many as 1,47,974 persons are under observation in various districts with 1,36,807 under home or institutional quarantine and 11,167 in hospitals.
In the last 24 hours 25,096 samples were tested. A total of 8,84,056 samples were sent for testing and the results of 6,444 samples are awaited.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the infectivity rate has started coming down in the large clusters in Poonthura and Vizhinjam. However, there is threat from three limited clusters and they might become large clusters.
The closed cluster of ITBP camp at Nooranad in Alappuzha was coming under control. But, 35 new cases were reported among the 50 personnel who came from Jalandhar; they were immediately quarantined on arrival. Camp authorities were asked not to bring new people from outside Kerala until the spread is contained. The situation at Kannur medical college has improved where 125 people tested positive, including 93 health care workers. At present 93 active cases are here, of which 60 are health workers.
