NRL to investigate after Wayne Bennett breaches COVID-19 protocol
The NRL is investigating whether Souths coach Wayne Bennett breached COVID-19 protocols after being spotted eating at an Italian restaurant in Leichhardt.
If Bennett confirms he attended the restaurant, he will have broken strict biosecurity rules which have allowed the NRL to continue despite Queensland's border closures.
Biosecurity rules state players and staff in each club's bubble must not attend cafes, restaurants, clubs or pubs.
A spokesman for the restaurant, Grappa, said it did not comment on any patrons who dine there.
If Bennett confirms he was at the restaurant when the NRL calls, he will be forced to have a COVID-19 test and may have to self-isolate.
He could miss Souths' clash with Brisbane tomorrow night.
It's not the first time Bennett has been in hot water with the NRL this year.
The Rabbitohs were fined $10,000 after Bennett did not tell the NRL about a video of Cody Walker kicking a man in the chest in his home town of Casino late last year.
Bennett is due to speak to reporters at 10.45am.
