NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki introduced the BS6-ready S-Cross on Wednesday, making the entire product portfolio BS6 compliant. S-Cross, which has been accepted by 1.25 lakh customers in less than five years.
DID YOU KNOW:1. S-Cross was the first product from Maruti Suzuki's premium chain Nexa.
2. S-Cross, much like the Vitara Brezza, were intially offered with diesel-only.
3. The S-Cross BS6 starts at a lower price point over the outgoing BS4 version.
Here are four new things you would witness in new S-Cross:
Engine and transmissionMaruti Suzuki S-Cross ushers into the BS6 era with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 105 PS of power and offers a peak torque of 138 Nm.
The new engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed AGS transmission. Only three out of the four variants on offers will have an automatic gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will be offered as a petrol model only and the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine has been discontinued as the engine couldn't meet the BS6 transition. Much like the Ciaz, t he new BS6 S-Cross is equipped with the next generation Smart Hybrid system with a lithium-ion dual battery system.
More affordable than before?Maruti Suzuki S-Cross BS6 starts at Rs 8.39 lakh (ex-showroom) and the range-topping variant costs Rs 12.39 lakh (ex-showroom). The new S-Cross will be offered in four trims-Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha.
The base model, Sigma starts at 8.39 lakh (ex-showroom), followed by Delta which costs Rs 9.60 lakh (ex-showroom) in manual gearbox option, the automatic option costs Rs 10.83 lakh (ex-showroom).
Zeta version costs Rs 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom) for manual and Rs 11.18 lakh (ex-showroom) for AT. The top model, Alpha, costs Rs 11.15 lakh (ex-showroom) and the automatic variant costs Rs 12.39 lakh (ex-showroom).

Updated interior: The BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross petrol gets the company’s latest touchscreen infotainment system.
The Smartplay Studio offers a 7-inch touchscreen display and an enhanced user interface which offers customizability. Since, it is a part of the Nexa family also comes with Nexa Music among many more features that can be used through your smartphone through the Suzuki Connect app.
Convenience and safety:The all new S-Cross Petrol offers a host of convenience features including auto-retracting outside rearview mirror (ORVM), auto-dimming and anti-glare inside rearview mirror (IRVM), rear parking camera and gear shift indicator.
The all-new S-Cross Petrol comes loaded with the latest safety features. These include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder, rear parking assist, high-speed warning alert, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat restraint system.
These safety features are standard across all variants to ensure complete safety of passengers.
Further, the all-new S-Cross Petrol is compliant with advance safety norms including frontal offset crash, side-impact and pedestrian safety.
Automatic variants are equipped with hill hold assist feature, as standard.
